Christopherus Homeschool Resources Conference

  • Green Meadow Waldorf School (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Donna Simmons from Christopheus Homeschool Resources will be offering a weekend workshop in Spring Valley, NY. This is a beginner’s conference, introducing people to important aspects of Waldorf education and how to work with this at home. The conference is mainly geared toward those Waldorf parents who have found themselves contemplating homeschooling. However, as the focus is mainly on working out of Waldorf pedagogy in the home, all homeschoolers interested in Christopherus’ approach are welcome.

Topics include: Meeting the Needs of Children and Teens in the 21C, An Overview of Child Development: Birth—Teen years, Self-Development as a Parent, From Classroom to Home -- So How Does One Actually Do This?, The Twelve Senses and Four Temperaments at Home, and Each Homeschool is Unique: ‘No School at Home!’. See Program Details for more specifics on the conference program.

This is a very last minute conference and as such there is no one to go to with questions. Donna is moving from WI to NY and will be on vacation until the day of the conference! People must be self organized! Thank you for understanding.

This conference might be followed by a grades conference in the Fall in Upstate NY or perhaps in Spring Valley.

Everyone who is interested in what Christopherus can offer to Waldorf homeschoolers is welcome to attend.

No registration is necessary. Please refer to the Christopherus Homeschool Resources Conference site for more information regarding housing, food and other details.

Exploring the Richness of Learning Alternatives - workshop with Jon McAlice & Kristin Buckbee

With so many families turning toward homeschooling, we can see this as an opportunity to approach education creatively and collaboratively. Home-based learning offers the possibility for drawing upon a rich tableau of daily life experiences to provide a foundation for your child’s learning path. Through shifting our ideas around education and what it’s been, we can offer something unique to the moment.

In this workshop, we will be covering and exploring teaching practices that support both your children and your lifestyle, as well as different educational experiences and content based on your children’s needs. We will also begin to look at forms and develop practices for those interested in building collaborative learning communities.

It is recommended that participants have previously attended a homeschool 101 workshop, or have made contact with someone who has for answers to all their practical questions beforehand. We will encourage folks to connect over the lunch break to answer these kinds of questions, but the focus of this workshop is primarily on exploring educational alternatives, community learning forms and building social fabric.  We will break for lunch. You are welcome to bring your own; there are also local options for eating out.  We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early so that we can start on time.

Jon McAlice and Kristin Buckbee have years of experience working creatively with mixed age homeschool groups and alternative educational forms. They are both members of Center for Contextual Studies, an organization that offers teacher development work and research colloquia.

Cost $60-80  (please let me know if you need help with the cost)

Location: Random Harvest, 1785 NY-23 Craryville, NY
Registration: please email Kristin Buckbee.
